Home remodeling is expected to be huge this year. Many homeowners are getting antsy for spring to arrive so they can start on their next big project. Are you one of them? With spring not too far off, we thought we’d start putting some ideas into your head to get you excited about the endless possibilities! Here are the some of the latest remodeling trends for 2015.
- A “Healthy” Home
Many people are remodeling to upgrade their home to a healthier level to prevent potential health problems. They are also realizing the importance of using materials that are safe for the home and the environment, using less harmful chemicals and finishes and better air filtration throughout the home. People are also becoming more energy-conscious, meaning they are upgrading their appliances and electronics to meet certain energy efficiency standards.
- Hardwood Flooring
Continuing the trend from last year, hardwood flooring is still very popular. It is considered to be a timeless material that will never go out of style.
Sustainable material, such as repurposed wood, makes for a very versatile and beautiful addition to the kitchens, living room, bedroom, etc.
Gray is becoming a very popular color, especially in kitchens. Charcoal, black, and white are all great colors that compliment the natural stone of countertops and accent walls found in the kitchen. Lighter shades of blue and green are also in.
- Accent Walls
Natural looking backsplashes are becoming more and more popular in modern homes. Accent walls made of (or appearing to be made of) stone, wood, glass, tile, or other natural-looking textures are being utilized throughout the home.
- In the Kitchen
Cabinetry: Simple, modern cabinets are popular this year, as well as refinishing existing cabinetry to achieve a more updated look on a smaller budget.
Countertops: Granite is still popular, but quartz is becoming increasingly popular as well.
Appliances: Stainless steel is still very popular.
- Updating the Bathroom
This year, bathrooms are expected to be the big room in the home to be remodeled and people are expanding their budgets in order to create more luxurious bathrooms this year. According to —- remodeling your bathroom has a —- recoupment of cost and could be one of the best investments you make in your home. Freestanding bathtubs are becoming more popular, and showers are getting bigger. Walk-in showers with large oversized glass panes and heated flooring in the bathroom are some trends we can expect to see in 2015.
- Functionality is Important
People are beginning to really think about how their home functions instead of only worrying about how it looks. Universal design is still a trend. Homes that incorporate this concept are made to accommodate everyone in the home. Oftentimes this means knocking down walls to create a more open, relaxing floor plan.
- “Smart” Home
Smart home systems are being introduced into more and more homes. These systems allow homeowners to control several different aspects of their home remotely using their smartphone or tablet. You can keep an eye on your home and adjust security systems, lighting, temperature, appliances, etc. all through an app on your phone.
- Remodel vs. Move
Just like we saw in 2014, more and more people in 2015 are deciding to stay where they are and remodel their current home instead of moving into a larger one. People are finding they can save a lot of money by renovating their existing home.
